OnePlus 12R isn’t working on Verizon yet, although it should be

While the OnePlus 12 performs fine on Verizon, unfortunately the same cannot be said of its more affordable sibling, the OnePlus 12R. According to some user reports, the phone doesn’t work on Verizon, even though it should.

This is the first time that an R series device has launched in the US, and it seems that the launch was not properly prepared on OnePlus’ part. One user on the XDA forums explained the problem quite clearly, describing that the multiple 12Rs he purchased all had “invalid IMEIs” on Verizon.

OnePlus customer support has apparently been stringing him along for over a week, constantly asking him to wait a day or two, over and over again. For what it’s worth, OnePlus acknowledged the issue in this statement issued to the Android Authority:

Unfortunately, the company has not provided any specific pointers on how long the process might take. It may be a case of support for Verizon to ‘switch on’ this model, but just because it’s easy doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy or fast.

So for now, if your carrier of choice is Verizon and the phone you’re eyeing is the OnePlus 12R, if we were in your shoes, we’d hold off on shopping until things get sorted. Hopefully it won’t take too long. While you wait, why not read our in-depth OnePlus 12R review? That way you can better familiarize yourself with it ahead of time.
