Vivo unveils Origin OS 4 with improved power management and memory efficiency

The Vivo developer conference kicked off today with the launch of Origin OS 4 based on Android 14. It brings a bunch of new features, a UI redesign and performance improvements, but sadly there are no plans to bring it to phones outside of China.

International units are already confirmed to get the FunTouch 14.
Performance improvements include faster app response, enabled by a “virtual graphics card”. It reduces app opening and closing times by 36% and increases frame rate stability by 70%.

What actually happens is that the OS prioritizes onscreen work, allocates more resources from the CPU and GPU, and blocks “irrelevant calculations”.

Visual improvements include over 2,000 newly designed icons to improve visual comfort. The company has brought a custom vivo Sans font and UI interaction across the system with real-time blurring effects, contextual wallpapers and lock screen customization.

The new version of Origin OS also comes with Vivo Smart Car 4.0. It is the brand’s alternative to Android Auto, which is unavailable in China. The interface you get when you connect your smartphone to a supported vehicle.

Other China-specific features that are unlikely to make it globally are the new Blue Heart Junior V Assistant, powered by AI, and Family Health, which tracks other family members’ smart devices in a neat widget.

OriginOS 4 will begin rolling out to existing devices by the end of the year. The first devices will be the X Fold2, X Flip, X90, X90 Pro, and X90 Pro+, as well as China-based no-Android variants of the iQOO 11, iQOO 11S, and iQOO 11 Pro. The upcoming vivo X100 and iQOO 12 series will have it pre-installed.
